Our 3rd Annual JULY 4th

Hometown Celebration

This was our third and most successful year organizing this highly attended event at Konehete Park near downtown Murphy, NC. The brainchild of our first president, Marie Speigel, the event encourages local businesses to come together to support, sponsor and participate in this event. This year we raised over $5000 to benefit community projects such as our "Princess Closet, and other worthwhile causes in our community. We also support women in business through education, seminars and speakers.

The Business Women of Cherokee County thanked the Cherokee County Recreation Dept. for their participation in the organization’s 3rd annual Fourth of July Hometown Celebration. Recreation Department director Phillip “Pee Wee” Davis and crew have been a major part of the event for the last 3 years. They coordinate the “Greased Pig Contest,” kids field games and the always popular “Peanut Drop.”

“We really appreciate the Rec. Department pulling together these elements that make the July 4thcelebration so enjoyable for everyone,” said BWOCC president, Jamie Keener. “In addition to all that, they prep the grounds before, and keep the park clean during and after the event. We could not pull off an event of this size without their help.”

The Business Women of Cherokee County thanked the folks at Hiwassee Valley Pool & Wellness Center for their participation in the organization’s 3rd annual Fourth of July Hometown Celebration. Wellness Center director Sheri Brydebell and trainer Frank Mason organized and sponsored the 5-K run for the July 4th event at the park—one of the largest races the area had seen in some time. There were over 135 runners and proceeds from the registration fees were collected for The Business Women of Cherokee County’s community projects. “We really appreciate the Wellness Center’s involvement this year,” said BWOCC president, Jamie Keener. “The race adds another element of enjoyment for the day-long celebration at the park. A lot of volunteer effort went into this and we hope they will do it again next year.”
